🀠 Wearing too many hats? This week planning guide might help

Published 10 months agoΒ β€’Β 1 min read

Hi friends!

I’m excited to share a resource I’ve been developing for over a year (or maybe more like a decade depending on how we’re counting πŸ™ƒ).

🌱 Latest from Jeremy

β€‹β€œToo Many Hats, Too Little Time” β€” A week planning guide for senior leaders of social change organizations

The more responsibilities we have on our plate, the more likely we are to end up scrambling to put out fires.

This reactive orientation to time is one of the top causes I see of burnout and overwhelm.

The solution: Develop an intentional orientation to time.

The key parts you need to develop that intentional orientation:

  • A system to track everything on your plate.
  • A habit to prioritize what is most important
  • The mindset to let go of the things you can’t fit in this week.

Want to help spread the word? Know any director-level folks in social change organizations/non-profits who might be feeling overwhelmed and are looking to get organized? If so, I’d be grateful if you passed this email on to them (or shared it in groups you're a part of)! Thanks for helping get useful tools to the people who might be looking for them.

β˜€οΈ Quotes & Inspiration

Since we're talking about time management in this newsletter, I can't help but include (yet another) quote from Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkman

Since hard choices are unavoidable, what matters is learning to make them consciously, deciding what to focus on and what to neglect, rather than letting them get made by defaultβ€”or deceiving yourself that, with enough hard work and the right time management tricks, you might not have to make them at all.

πŸ“• Interesting & fun shares

  • πŸ”‰ Enneagram introduction part 1 and part 2 on Glennon Doyle's podcast. The guest put words to the reason I love the Enneagram: "It's not describing behavior, it's describing motivation."
  • πŸ”‰ Podcast on communal living from Ezra Klein: I've lived communally most of my life (and I've written a few guides related to communal living). I appreciated the exploration of the importance of having "larger care networks" β€” especially if you're parenting!
  • 🎢 Most epic 90s sing-along ever: I basically want this to be my life every night! 🀩

🌲 Upcoming programs

  • My upcoming 6-month coaching cohort for senior leaders starts soon (in early August).
  • A quick reminder that the application deadline is August 1st, 2023.
  • The folks who have applied and been accepted so far are shaping up to be an incredible group of director-level folks working in all kinds of areas: climate, social justice, spirituality, philanthropy, and health.
  • Check out the coaching cohort →

Big hugs,
Jeremy
